A little organisation the night before makes the first morning calmer. Here is a simple what-to-pack checklist.
A calm first morning usually starts the night before. A little organisation means less rushing — and a more relaxed goodbye when it counts. Here is a simple guide to help you prepare.
What to pack
Label everything with your child's name, and pack it the evening before:
- A spare change of clothes (or two for younger children)
- A wide-brimmed hat for outdoor play
- Any comfort item your child rests with
- A water bottle
- Nappies and wipes, or spare underwear if toilet training
- A warm layer for cooler days
Your child's educators will let you know anything specific to their room, such as bedding or bottles.

Label, label, label
In a busy room full of little hands, labels are your best friend. A name on every item — clothes, bottle, hat, and comfort toy — means fewer lost treasures and easier mornings.
The night before
- Lay out clothes and pack the bag together, so your child feels part of it
- Talk about the next day warmly and simply
- Aim for an early, settled bedtime
- Set your own alarm a little earlier to avoid a rush

On the morning
Keep breakfast relaxed, leave a few minutes of buffer, and plan a short, confident goodbye. A predictable routine helps your child feel secure — and helps you, too.
